Searching for WWII Ilmavoimat pilot...

T!erve guys!

I know a guy that just recently found out that one of his relatives (his mother's uncle) flew as a pilot during World War 2 in Finland. The pilots name was Reino Juura and he came from Inkeroinen. These two facts, his name and place of birth, is all we have. Is there any possibility to find out what he did in the Ilmavoimat? Any database? Anything?

Hello Jompa!

If you had his date of birth you could contact the Finnish National Archive and order copy of his "kantakortti" where all the data is, which unit did he serve, promotions, if he was wounded and so on.

However I know there's a monthly made list in which every pilot and his monthly flying hours are listed. This list was composed at least during 1941 - 1944. I would help if I knew if Juura was a bomber or a fighter pilot.

I'll pass the answer on to my friend. Maybe he can ask someone else about date of birth and what type of plane Juura flew. In that case I'll keep you posted.

According to "luettelo sotilaslentäjistä joille on vuosina 1918-1944 annettu Suomen Lentomerkki" Reino Juura was not a pilot nor an observer nor he was given a Finnish flying badge by honoris causa. It might be he was accepted to pilot or observer training but did not go through it.
