Hi guys,

I am looking for an active and florishing Finnish fighter squadron that is recruiting international pilots and doing business in English, as I don't speak a single word of Finnish. Nevertheless I am very interested in the history of the Winter War, Continuation War and Lapland War and would like to fly in those scenarios much more.

I am no rookie when it comes to flying and fighting, but things could certainly be improved in a well-run full-real squadron with some sort of (military) structure with some mature guys, so this is what I would like to join.

I see that LeLv34 has quite a large roster of pilots and every now and then I saw some of you guys in the Hyperlobby or at WoP, so I thought you could be what I was looking for.

If you are still actively flying IL-2 (I am an IL-2-only pilot, no AH or similar) and could think of an English speaking pilots among your ranks, I'd be happy to meet you someday and fly with you guys.

A few words about me: I am 31 years old and come from Germany, and I have been flying IL-2 online for more than two years now (offline since the original IL-2 came out). I also have real-life aviation background (only private pilot license though).

S!

Thanks for popping by! When I read your application I think that LLv34 will suit you just fine! Most of us are finns (not me though, I'm from Sweden), and most of us are 25+ in age. Don't hesitate to contact us when you see us online! Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday nights at about 20.00 are our official flying days. We are easily recognized since we all have an LLv34_ prefix in our nicknames online. To become a member of LLv34 you will have to fly a couple of evaluation flights and according to the result you will be accepted as a recruit. You will then have to fly five training missions to become familiar with our War Mission system before becoming assigned to active duty.

Please check out our website: http://www.virtualpilots.fi/LLv34/ and read the "rules"-section.

Ps. What is your nickname online? It would be good to know so we can keep an eye after you. :)

Thanks for showing interest in joining our squadron!

Sincerely
LLv34_Jompa

Hi Jompa,

thanks for the welcome. I already talked to Camo on your TS channel and I am very enthusiastic about joining your squad, so I will see to getting the test flights done next week probably.

During my online IL-2 career I used several callsigns according to what I flew most at a time (using a typical USAAF squadron and name for flying Mustangs and Thunderbolts for example, 336thFS_Conrads in this case), so it would be kind of hard to track my career  In order to concentrate on the Finnish war history and to join your squadron I'll employ the Name "(Nils) Holgersson" from now on, Nils being my RL first name, and Holgersson obviously for choosing a scandinavian name from the fairy tale that I watched as a cartoon on TV in my younger years :D I thought that one might fit just fine.

Camo told me you guys are using the Bf-109G-2/6 mainly for your war missions due to the historical context. That's absolutely fine with me as I am totally focussed on historical authenticity and simulation realism and like the Bfs, but I'd also like to fly Winter War missions with the Fokker or some Cont' War sorties with the Brewster now and then, for example. Is there any chance the LeLV34 also does war missions like these sometimes? Just asking though, this isn't a 'no go' item for me if you don't.

Best regards from Germany

Nils

He he. Good choise of nickname! Nils Holgersson was a pilot indeed, and a Swedish one too.

Reguarding your question about WM:s. We can only fly them in Me 109 G2 or G6. However, we are flying regularly in online events such as Scorhed Earth and achievements made in these missions, even though not in 109's, have impact on our careers (medals and promotions).

See you in the virtual skies!

Oh, I thought these "War Missions" were SEOW missions. If not, what are they? How exactly does it work? Do you fly them against human enemies, or are they just coop based against AI?

SEOW is different from War Missions. War Missions are flown against human pilots on a server with Bf109G-2 or G-6 available. AI are not counted as kills if I recall correctly. WM rules differ quite a lot from the SEOW things, as you have to stay with your wingie, keep him alive, confirm kills and landings etc. And most importantly, when you have agreed on a WM and press Fly there is no back off, except certain conditions are met. See more in Rules :)

Hi Flanker, thanks for the info. Unfortunately the rules don't tell much about the War Missions, what exactly to expect, that is, that's why I keep on nagging on about them :D . So if I got that right War Missions are basically missions flown on one of the available Dogfight Servers like Spits vs. 109 for example... if there's a 109G2/6 available in the current mission, then LeLv34 pilots will fly it, is that correct?

Sorry that I don't let go of this topic, it's just that I'd like to ask before I "step on anyone's toes" accidently when it comes to flying missions. The thing is I've been there, done that... flying on those dogfight servers for two years now, and I've grown pretty sick of them. In my experience they don't allow realistic missions, as there's a lot of arcade flying going on, many lone wolves (like I was one for too long ;) ) and so on. The biggest problem I think is that once you are committed to a fight with a first bogey, you end up low on the deck fighting a second, a third, a fourth bogey and so on, as they tend to stream from the too-close spawn bases to the nearest tracers that show the way to a fight.

Also, wouldn't available dogfight servers give you all kinds of scenarios except for Finnland scenarios? They are pretty scarce out there unfortunately.

Hi Nils,

A link to our WM rules can be found above the kill boards. Just click Kills/"IL-2" and then click "*IL-2/FB & AH Kill Rules" from the top.

...or use this direct link:

Holgersson!

War Missions can be flown in any server meeting the following requirements:

Full realism settings and closed cockpit. Icons are allowed.

Only kills scored on a plane flown by a human counts. WM:s might just as well be flown in a co op server as in a dog fight one, but AI kills will not be counted in your official score. Be aware that an AI plane can kill you though (counted as AAA)! Flying WM:s in a SEOW-server is just fine, if only 109 G-2 or G-6 is available.

You must have at least one confirming LLv34 wingman to be able to fly a mission!

Kills that are not confirmed (the wingman can clearly see the enemy plane be destroyed) will not be counted! The "enemy aircraft destroyed" message is not enough to prove a kill!

Only Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-2, G-6 and G-6 late are allowed.

A WM cannot be flown if the pilot have bailed out, ditched or been getting killed or missing in another WM the same day.

These things are the essence of it all. For more details check the WM-rules. :)

For my part this War Mission system have kept me flying online for 11 years now. I just can't get tired of it!
